Weprevett takes pride in its team of highly trained and certified auditors, including Master Mariners and Chief Engineers with extensive audits and TMSA review experience. We are dedicated to helping ship owners and operators achieve the highest standards of professional ship management through rigorous audits, self-assessments, and reviews.

     VDR ANALYSIS

Voyage Data Recorder (VDR) analysis is an essential tool for achieving a safer and more efficient maritime operation. With no direct control over the navigation of a vessel from shore, navigational incidents can have severe consequences on both the business entity and reputation of a company. VDR data analysis is a valuable tool that can provide insight into the navigational practices followed onboard a vessel, and help forewarn about potential risks and hazards.

There is overriding P & I club evidence that:

  •  The number of navigational incidents is increasing
  •  The cost of navigational incidents is increasing.
  •  The impact of navigational incidents on company reputations is becoming more serious.
  •  50% of claims attached to navigational incidents are caused by human error.
  •   These incidents could have been prevented

Our company offers remote VDR data analysis services to gain valuable insights into the actual navigational practices followed onboard a vessel. We provide comments and inputs on the findings of VDR data analysis to encourage the bridge team to follow best navigation practices and reduce the risk of navigational accidents. This additional tool is extremely useful in achieving zero incidents and zero spills, which are critical to maintaining a business entity and its reputation.

     VDR Data used to acess:

  •  Proper carry out of essential equipment checks
  •  Adherence to UKC requirements
  •  Correct use of parallel indexing techniques
  •  Correct and timely conduct of collision avoidance
  •  Correct use of and response to navigational equipment alarms
  •  The Pilot’sintegration with the bridge team
  •  Any gaps identified are shared with fleet and induded in coaching and mentoring processes
  •  Areas of focusing resources in terms of either assement or mentoring processes
    •  It is additionally used when:

  •  Trading patterns make it difficult to conduct traditional assesment
  •  Following up to verify correction of non-conformance
  •  Assesment in natural enviroment without evident assesor
  •  Invetigation incident on board

     The Process

Our VDR analysis process starts with our clients providing us with the VDR data and relevant voyage documents on a CD, memory stick, or via our secure dropbox. Our experienced auditors then analyze the data and produce a comprehensive written report that includes valuable observations and recommendations based on best practices and bridge procedures. This finished report is then sent to the client, along with a thorough assessment of the navigational operations on board the vessel.
By choosing our remote VDR analysis service, our clients benefit from a range of advantages, including:

  •  No auditor presence on board, ensuring that navigators cannot ‘raise their performance’ for the duration of the audit
  •  Flexible scheduling, allowing clients to choose when and where the audit takes place, such as during port arrival/departure or in areas of high traffic density
  •  Exhaustive data analysis, with the ability to pause, rewind, and replay the data as necessary for better understanding and analysis
  •  The option to share the data and report with the bridge team, helping to emphasize and demonstrate the findings and recommendations for improvement
  •   Unannounced audits, providing an accurate representation of the vessel’s standard navigational practices
  •   Fixed costs, ensuring transparency and predictability in the audit process.
